Is It Accessible? Choosing and Using Software Titles
(Guidelines on ‘Reasonable Adjustment’)

This seminar is seeking will focus on guidelines to be published on the 
‘reasonable adjustment’ to be expected in future educational software and 
electronic materials.
The National Curriculum Inclusion Statement requires schools to responding 
to pupils’ diverse leaning needs.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act and subsequent Special Educational 
Needs and Disability Act, schools and local authorities are under a duty to 
ensure that pupils who are disabled are not put at a substantial disadvantage.
Schools and educational authorities are also under a duty to plan 
strategically to increase access to the curriculum to disabled pupils (the 
planning duty).
An exercise is being carried out to find out what standards exist and to 
relate them to this work.
We invite you to a discussion regarding:
•       the criteria for ‘reasonable adjustment’
•       labelling of software for accessibility
•       a proposed common terminology
•       general guidance supporting accessibility
•       examples of good practice
•       whether an ‘existing standards’-mapping tool would be useful.

This is this follow-up to the consultation process carried out just before 
Christmas.
