Commercial Interest Declared I realise this is much overdue but I'm afraid I am only just catching up after the holidays! It's encouraging to see the use of and interest in symbolising VLEs. We have always tried to be as flexible as possible in letting people use the Widgit Literacy Symbols (WLS-we have rebadged the symbol set and dropped 'rebus') within the information they are trying to make accessible. Yet there are copyright issues to consider. As information is now being shared in more and more ways (VLE, websites, pdf) we have wider distribution to consider therefore we are rejigging our copyright guidelines to reflect technological developments and use on the web. However we will and have always allowed any anyone to use up to 100 WLS without charge. Any further use than 100 symbols and a discussion will need to be had with our Accessability Team. Also, historically you would have needed to contact Mayer Johnson directly to use PCS even if you have gained access of them through Widgit products. Though as of the 1st of January Widgit has taken over commercial responsibility for Mayer Johnson in the UK. And though this is way up over my head in the corporate chain it is my understanding that we will be incorporating the use of PCS in our copyright guidelines. As we are currently in the midst of updating our copyright guideline I suggest getting in touch with me directly if you are using or considering using WLS or PCS on any of your sites. There will be updated info posted on our website as soon as we come to agreement with Mayer Johnson. Hopefully shortly after BETT. Speaking of which, if any of you are attending BETT and do have interest in using symbols on VLEs or websites please come see us as our Accessibility Team would be happy to discuss and show you the progress in our technology that can help web developers incorporate the use of symbols on their websites in a quick, timely and easy manner as we did with the AskAbility site mentioned on this forum recently. http://www.widgit.com/symbols/web/askability.htm -Tina -- Christina LaMarca Special Education Needs Consultant Widgit Software, Logotron Ltd. 124 Cambridge Science Park Milton Rd, Cambridge, CB4 0ZS tel: 01223 425558 ext 773 mob: 07770 381514 web: www.widgit.com Matthew Harrison wrote: >Hi all, > > > >A week or so ago several of you expressed an interest in our symbolised >Virtual Learning Environment.
