hi, and thanks for your responses. The conclusion seems to be that 30 mins is too short for a 2 or 3 part lesson so that in that amount of time I can either stay at the IWB and differntiate for the group or have the class working individually at PCs. Or maybe alternate these approaches. An alternative is small group work but that would require LSAs to teach rather than monitoring a small group - and they would need training up on that.
