Hi Stuart I have a digital recorder and Dragon Nat Speaking that I can use to transcribe notes to reduce the time it takes to create reports. As suggested, I trained DNS via the recorder and have a speech file to use with it. This is one (clear-speaking) user, recordings are usually made in a quiet place and a fully able, computer literate user to correct the transcription errors. However, this is a very different situation from using this equipment in a classroom for a group discussion where you have a number of speakers, different distances from the recorder. I fear the accuracy of transcription would be very low - and correcting errors can take much time to correct. You could try asking Ian Litterick (Dyslexci.com) for advice as he may have some experience of this use. Sadly, I think that you may find a human note taker is still simpler and quicker. Best of luck anyway, Ann McDevitt Independent IT and SEN Consultant -----Original Message----- From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Bromley, Stuart Sent: 17 July 2007 14:41 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senit] Transcription of class discussion. I am supporting a very able pupil with cerebral palsy in mainstream school who is entering 6th form next year. School has asked if it is possible for group discussions to be recorded then transcribed into his computer so he has the information to manipulate without having large amounts to type. I know the latest version of Dragon NS is supposed to be able to transcribe from certain dictaphones. Does anyone have any experience of this or any other possibilities?
