Hi Sally, we originally designed and built our own height adjustable mountings for touch plasma screens, and installed them in 2 classrooms. http://www.parkroadict.co.uk/School%20Developments.html It coincided with Inclusive bringing their trolley version to market. Since we knew we wanted fixed setups so that people could use them as easily as possible, we went to the people who manufacture the actual height adjustable mechanism, and discussed our needs with them. In particular, although they already had a mounting that fixed to the wall and moved up and down, we wanted to make sure it allowed enough space away from the wall for someone to be seated on the floor in long sitting position, or sit facing it in a wheelchair (both adequately back to have a chance to see the screen of course, but able to have some 'overlap'), or to be standing (whether unassisted, or perhaps in a tilt table). They were very helpful in adjusting the engineering to make sure that the gap from the wall to the front of the screen was as we wanted, and were also able to modify the shelving options to suit us. We use Mac Minis with USB speakers, so these all sit snugly behind the screen, whilst the keyboard and mouse are Bluetooth so can be used at a comfortable distance away from the screen. With regard to size and quality, we went for the higher end in both cases. The difference is far less of an issue for graphics and text, but is more evident with rich images and especially moving images. We use lots of video and photo work with our pupils so really had to go with the higher definition screen. In the context of the classroom, we tested the 42" and 50", and felt that the 50" was right for when groups are working together, along with being a more significant difference for those pupils who perhaps show little interest in the standard desktop size of about 17". However, I now feel that size is less of an issue (!), it's quality that counts. Have a chat with Loxit, who make the mountings, about what they have: http://www.loxit.com/philop.htm#pwall All the best, Sean O'Sullivan sean.frankwise at easynet.co.uk Deputy Headteacher Frank Wise School, Banbury http://www.frankwise.oxon.sch.uk http://www.parkroadict.co.uk On 4 Jun 2007, at 10:21, sally millar wrote: > hi > Has anyone bought and used one of these and can share views ? > Can anyone comment on which version they bought and why - and how > it worked out? > For example, a school that I support is wondering about the > difference between the standard and high definition plasma screens > (other than price) - is the high definition screen worth it, in > other words? > And is it necessary/worth getting the 50" or have people found the > 42" satisfactory ? > Thanks > Sally Millar > -- > > Sally Millar FRCSLT, M.Ed, > Senior Research Fellow / Joint Coordinator > CALL Centre > University of Edinburgh Direct Line +44 131 651 6077 > Paterson's Land Office +44 131 651 6236 > Holyrood Road Fax +44 131 651 6234 > Edinburgh EH8 8AQ > Scotland, UK > > > Web: http://www.callcentrescotland.org.uk/ > > |
