hi in the thread below I had used the symbol translation advice at http://www.widgit.com/symbols/about_symbols/symbol_use/index.htm it was recieved well by that particular group of staff. However more recently I have repeated this with other staff and run into problems using this as a handout. Working through the advice with the group on the iwb proves deceptively easy, but when it comes to individual or paired practice using the same sheet it becomes evident that there is too much in this advice sheet it needs to be drastically broken down for some situations. With its coverage of F11, F12, wordlists, layout ideas etc and using terms such as pronouns it seems to 1. be set at about level 4 NC 2. require a familiarity with using wws albeit in a way that may be poor at symbolising 3. require ICT skills above beginners level. So at one end you have people using wws confidently but needing specific advice on symbol translation and at the other end you have people struggling to use wws (and with need of symbol translation advice). So 1. is it worth trying to teach symbol translation principles to the latter group at an early stage or is it better to let them get lots of practice at just using the program ? 2. If it is worth it- has anyone come across a small step introduction to symbol translation at about NC level 2 ? david --- david fettes <davidfettes3 at yahoo.co.uk> wrote: > Thanks to everyone who contributed to the > discussion > on symbol translation we had a useful short training > session for staff using many of the ideas discussed > to > try out symbol translation at the computer > especially > using WWS2000 F12, F11 and language simplification. > David > > > > > > ___________________________________________________________ > > ALL-NEW Yahoo!
