hi still battling on with symbol translation training,
what some staff do with ease ,others struggle with. 
have come up with some levels of task. Some didn't
realise that in a typical picture story of 250 words
you might need to replace /change about 100 symbols.

level 1
as separate practice tasks; 
using F12 to remove grammatical symbols
F11 to rename symbols
replacing anaphoric pronouns
removing past tense markers
removing plural markers and suffixes

levle 2
combined tasks such as the widgit document referred to
below

level 3
Translate a simple short story into Makaton symbols
(eg Where’s Spot)

Write a simple set of instructions for a student using
Makaton Symbols
(eg washing hands after using toilet and before
eating, or bedtime routine)

Make a simple Worksheet using Makaton symbols in WWS
(eg to match Makaton symbols or match symbols to
written words)

level 4
Translate a longer story into Makaton symbols
(eg The bear hunt)

Write a harder set of instructions for a student using
Makaton Symbols
(eg a cooking recipe)

Make harder Worksheets using Makaton symbols in WWS
(eg using cloze procedures, dashed print,)


the later tasks particularly try and make things that
the staff person will use in class with their own
students. Any thoughts or additional tasks- especially
"real" or curriculum-based ?
