Try the Seeing Ear library at http://www.seeingear.org/. It's primarily a resource for blind people but since copyright exemption also applies to physically disabled, you can ask the librarian if you can join. Certainly I've found it very useful and have downloaded books (in plain text format) such as Harry Potter, Philip Pullman, Artemis Fowl, Jacqueline Wilson. My usual practice is to open the text file in Word, add structure using Word Headings (e.g. for chapters), build hyperlinked table of contents and then save as Word, Microsoft Reader (using the free Read in Microsoft Reader converter at http://www.microsoft.com/reader/developers/downloads/rmr.mspx, and PDF. They can be made switch-accessible using a programmable switch box like Crick's. The thing about adding the table of contents is that it can be saved in the Reader and PDF versions to give better navigation. If anyone would like some quick guides about copyright and making and reading digital books email me off list and I'll send them. So far, all the pupils I've made books for have liked the Microsoft Reader format best (http://www.microsoft.com/reader/) - simple reasons like it opens the book at the page you last read. Reader also has free text-to-speech. There's also the Daisy option, but making Daisy books costs money and for physical disability Word, Reader and PDF are free and very easy. Anyone interested in digital books and resources should have a look at the Books for All report which was just published on the Scottish Executive web site at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2007/06/05081600/0 and the CALL web site at: http://www.booksforall.org.uk/. It looks at the whole area of accessible alternative formats for anyone who is 'print-disabled'. Paul __________________________________ Paul D. Has anyone got any age and gender specific modern fiction text that they can let me have. I have looked at all the normal sources but I want modern books for her to read for pleasure on her tablet laptop. Many thanks Russ Russell J.
