It would help to know what version system software the person is using; likely to be OSX, but could be OS 9? In OSX one route is to make sure you're not in an active programme, then click on the 'File' menu, scroll down to 'Find', and enter the relevant info such as name of document, or when it was created, or various other choices. It will then show you where that document is stored on the computer. I vaguely remember OS 9 having pretty much the same option too. Another option (if bang up to date with OSX 10.4) is to use the Spotlight feature, on the extreme right on the menu bar. Typing even just a string of words that were in the document will then bring it up in a list. Of course, if your friend didn't even save the document once before the power went off then there's not going to be a lot of hope!
