Hi Katie It is not entirely clear how you want to monitor ICT sessions... Were you thinking of lesson observations? If so, I would highly recommend a course run by Kathy Lowers (of the Institute of Education) called Skills for Classroom Observation. I have proformas developed for the style of observation that Kathy advocates, but I'm not sure how much sense they would make without the context of the underlying theory. If you are looking to monitor the type and extent of ICT sessions taking place over a fixed period, I have done this by using an ICT Log, asking all teachers to record the ICT sessions that take place in their class over the course of a week. To try and minimise the onerous potential of this task, it was laid out as a multiple choice survey, where teachers were asked to circle or highlight their responses. The only writing they had to do was the start and finish time of the session and the software that was used - although there was space for additional comments. It covered when and where the session took place, the organisation (whole class / small group / individual), the subject it supported, the equipment used and the children's role. It generated a lot of data, which my admin assistant entered into an Excel spreadsheet and I analysed. I could also produce all sorts of natty graphs which will be useful for comparison purposes when I do the same exercise next year, to evaluate whether a focus on the use of specific software and the training to support staff has had impact on teaching styles. Of course it doesn't tell me too much about impact on children's learning, but hopefully assessment data will provide me with that information. If you want a copy of the ICT Log I'm happy to send you a copy, but I must stress that the analysis of the data generated is time consuming and only tells you so much... Either embedded or specific ICT sessions? This is for use with pupils from 3-19 in a special school setting.
