If you're looking at straight cause and effect control from a sound then you could use a sound operated switch -QED do one: http://www.qedonline.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=78&products_id=233 Then you can use all or any of cause and effect software you like. You can adjust the threshold of the sound that operates the switch, but any sound will work: voice, banging, clapping, music. I've found you can get it to work best using a directional microphone or clip on one, rigged up to point to the pupil. 'Amazing though how even people whom you wouldn't think would register what a microphone was will stop vocalising when you point a microphone at them.
