Write your own art software in SLD

I'd like to complement and endorse Geoff's stance but prefer and
recommend SVG which is an open web standard. one that is being
maintained and will integrate well with social networking in the future.

I realise that I keep repeating myself but with Flash you can design
many of these pieces of software yourselves. A much superior version
of the picassohead for instance can easily be designed with Flash.
( I realise with you all time is what holds you back)

The big advantage is that the student and the teacher can then go in
and change the template to their own liking and thus gain the
satisfaction of having created something themselves and not just used
someone else's ideas.

How much more fun is it to to go into a template that duplicates
picasso and be able to change or add your own designs of mouth eyes -
make them blink make the mouth open and close.

What many have not really understood, I suspect, is that Flash is
software that can be used to write new software which with the ones
I've designed, I call templates.

What you could be doing as a group is start writing software to suit
your particular needs then others in the future could adapt them and
improve them.

You the teachers could be in charge of the design of the software you
use. Furthermore your students could use it to create new work to the
extent of their abilities and even beyond this they could start
teaching and enthusing other students without the teacher being
involved.

I know this is possible because I've been there while it happens at
Ethel Davies special needs school in Redbridge.

Now for the punch line - Flash 4 which used to cost some £300 in 1998
(to web site designers) is absolutely free now.

It is no longer under licence - we had word from Alex Moore of
Adobe UK to say that their Corporation is now longer interested in it!

What an opportunity!

And I'm here ready to teach you how to use it again for free -
several of your members have already had my lessons and have/are
enjoying them and are actively creating new projects for the rest of
you to use.

For the latest project I'm involved with - see http://tygh.co.uk/
christmas which includes on-line tutorials and free templates which
you can download
