Have you considered using a Mac. OS X certainly seems to suit visual learners. You could just put on the Dock the icons he needs access to and lock it all down. Also on Macs you need an admin password to download anything with executable code so no chance of him accidentally downloading lots of malware. My Macmini has crashed twice in two and a half years!
