Absolutely! The largest single group of pupils with additional support needs
in Scotland are those with moderate/severe learning difficulties (25%), who
are likely to benefit from symbol support. Doesn't mean they would be all be
able to use symbol supported email, of course, but if we have screen readers
so that visually impaired users can email (only 1.5% of those with
additional support needs) and text-reader tools to help those with specific
learning difficulties/dyslexia (20%) use email then we should also have
tools for non-readers.
