Hi all, I know I'm going over old ground here, but several years ago Portland College (a residential, specialist FE college for adults with physical disabilities and associated learning difficulties) and the University of Teesside produced a prototype switch-accessible, symbolised VLE for pre-Entry level learners at Portland. To this day I still believe it is probably one of the most appropriate systems for learners with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. As with all short-term funded projects there came a day when the funding ran out and the development stopped. If we could source some funding for a developer to help make this system authorable I am sure that we could have a VLE that would suit not only learners in specialist schools and colleges, but also those in Primary education. If funding were available, many members of this list seem ideal candidates to help form a working party to take this forward and get it used. If anyone has any wonderful suggestions of how to take this forward please let me know. It seems a shame for this kind of development to lie dormant due to a lack of funding. Best wishes, Matt Matt Harrison Research and Technology Development Manager Portland College -----Original Message----- From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of david fettes Sent: 24 April 2008 20:35 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: Re: [senit] digital portfolios Hi I agree with much of what Ian says. However I don't think powerpoint etc is a practical way of maintaining constantly updated ROAs accessible to all those concerned with the child , anytime, anywhere. Also the government's target for a personal learning space, which would surely include a digital portfolio? was march 2008, with much Becta work going back to maybe 2003, so really I think VLEs are the way forward. I agree that the VLEs have come from HE hence are not that suitable for primaries let alone special schools, but we don't want children with special needs to miss out on this entitlement, so I look forward to Inclusive Technology's LP products. cheers David ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
