Hi, we are being asked by LEA to list what skills
ICT technicians in special schools need over and above
the skills which they would need in mainstream.
A technician coming in without any of these skills
tends to do things wrong without realising it;
As a first thought;
skills with;
making;
-WWS wordlists
-clicker libraries
-1st keys lists
-skills in installing, maintaining, configuring wide
range of software common in primary schools
rather than secondaries eg 2simple
-skills in installing, maintaining configuring wide
range of switch software not often found in mainstream
-IEPwriter configuration
-Bsquared
-input devices & drivers eg switch boxes & switches
touchscreens, concept keyboards
-advanced skills in wws,clicker,powerpoint,and
accessible multimedia
-programming hi tech communication aids
(eg Tellus, chat PC, DV4)
-skills relating to accessibility of online
environments
-social skills in working on computers in classrooms
during the school day alongside volatile students with
autism for instance.
-possibly working with a multidisciplinary team of
class staff, therapists etc
Please can you add to the list ASAP as I am meeting
them Monday?!
thanks
David
