Article: [senit] ICT Qualifications

If he is capable of GCSE I would certainly go for an ECDL - perhaps
starting with an ecitizen course and seeing how he gets on. To be
brutally honest its really important to look at courses that offer a
recognised qualification - and I think ECDL is probably the most
recognised out of your options

Courseware can be provided very cheaply or Free (look at the Alison ECDL
for an example) and is very much driven by the pace of the learner - as
materials are online they can equally be accessed from home as from
school, and all that needs to be paid for then is the examination.

As ECDL qualifications are organised by BCS in the UK - they have put a
lot into accessible testing etc so that is often helpful

Hope this is useful

Subject: [senit] ICT Qualifications

Hi

Does anyone have any ideas for ICT qualifications that would be suitable
for
a year 9 boy choosing his options? He is severely athetoid and has
communication difficulties which severely limit his computer access and
recording speed. He attends mainstream school and is academically
capable of
following a GCSE ICT curriculum. The difficulty lies with completing the
volume of work within the time allowed alongside the range of other
subjects
he wants to study. Any suggestions for other appropriate qualifications
he
might pursue? Asdan Key Skills ICT springs to mind [level 3?] or ECDL or
Dida?

Thanks

Ian
