Article: [senit] first keys

Hi David

We used to use this program quite a lot in Priory Woods.
Wordlists of pupil / staff names were very popular as were animals, food etc. We also used to use the program to make electronic books by simply typing in a simplified version of the text. Scan or photograph the illustrations from the book and add these to the pages. You can then create a wordlist using key words from the book. Once created you can use this for simple initial letter work, typing whole words or sentences and even cloze procedures. It sounds complicated and time consuming - it's actually quite easy especially if you plan to make SwitchIt and ChooseIt Maker versions at the same time.

By creating all three you will have a really useful literacy resource for children of all abilities, including those who can read / type simple words.
Don't forget the story sack though ;)

Best Wishes.

Ian

students have recently responded very well to first
keys 2 when a student/staff photo wordlist has been
used. Has anyone used this program extensively and
found other highly motivating activities to make into
wordlists?
david
