Hi Sally,

great to hear you're getting into all of this. I've just watched the  
video you linked to and was waiting for the moment where he was going  
to mention Creative Commons. It finally came very near the end (about  
17 minutes 20 seconds I think), but in deference to the hosts (TED,  
whoever that organisation is) he flashed the logo up on screen but  
didn't actually say it.
For anyone who hasn't explored this yet, it's a very sound legal  
system for sharing your work, or for being given access to others'  
work with clear stages of what you can do. Perhaps the key aspect for  
education, is the option whereby permission can be granted to freely  
use the material and re-mix it in any way the user chooses, as long as  
not benefitting commercially. There is an option to refuse commercial  
use, and another to simply say that if it does get used commercially  
then the originator must be paid an agreed amount.
