Article: [senit] Copyright creativity and curriculum

For those interested in web 2.0 we have recently released a review of
the accessibility of social networking sites - you can find it at
www.abilitynet.org.uk under the heading of eNation

Web 2.0 covers a multitude of sins - blogs are a great medium to help
young people move from being passive recipients of the internet to
creators

AbilityNet are busy developing usage of web 2.0 and we would welcome
input and involvement from all those interested

1 Assistive Technology wiki

This is currently in Beta and is building steadily - we would very much
welcome input from anyone who would like to contribute content - this
can be in two forms - first information which is entered into the main
wiki pages and second the opinion which can be entered as threads into
discussion around an area of content - email me directly if you would
like to be involved at all

2 YouTube / social networks

Our YouTube channel is growing each month and again we would welcome
videos, links etc to make use easier for all - if you have a video that
you would like us to hose contact me by email again. We also use Google
video as a resource base for videos we want to embed in other
applications

We are just opening a project with a housing trust on supporting elderly
people to maintain social relationships on facebook and Skype - useful
work in helping overcome some of the closed feeling of residential
provision

3 Streaming solutions

>From Cricks "writeonline" to streaming office apps we are exploring the
interface between these and assistive technologies - again interested in
your experiences for the future

4 VoIP etc

We are continuing our work on using VoIP and video conferencing to
deliver assessments and training

Details about a number of these developments were summarised in the
Journal of Assistive Technologies and we will be running a course on web
2.0 in the summer in London for those that are interested - if you would
like to regiset interest you can do so at courses at abilitynet.org.uk

Hope this is of interest

Sean, with respect to Amy's blog. Great.Wouldn't some
sort of list membership provide Amy with more
feedback? eg we belong to this list and someone is
bound to comment on most things we say! There are
yahoo groups etc on most interests. I suppose you lose
the sense of ownership that a blog provides. Maybe Amy
could do both- join a list -email group and refer
people she gets on with on it to her blog? of course
there are e-safety issues, but the school could help
there. her online community wouln't have to be local.
Young people that I know are more into Face book than
blogs...
just an idea
