David and all: Very much enjoying the thread and it's giving me some ideas for how we can push this area forward in the Becta framework functional and technical requirements beyond the current very static content based approach which is far from perfect. A Becta view on your "what is the difference..." question David, 'personal learning space' is the target for Becta, Las, Schools et al to deliver, it is about provision of a service. Learning platform, the collective name for the technologies that deliver the functions set out in the Becta LP framework functional requirements document some of which are mandatory, some recommended. It is acknowledged that some additional functions may be offered which are not in this list. VLE, MIS, MLE, all generic names for types of products which might in different combinations be used to deliver all or some of a 'learning platform'. Hope this is helpful. best wishes Adrian Higginbotham Project manager: Learning services Becta Tel: Direct dial 024 7679 7333 - Becta switchboard 02476-416994. It apparently has child friendly email. what's the differenec between a learning platform, a VLE (I was told digital brain is one of these) , and a MLE (again was told Fronter is one of these), and finally a personal learning space (from becta's harnessing technology)?? david --- Trish Hornsey <Trish at inclusive.co.uk> wrote: > Commercial Interest > > Inclusive Technology has teamed up with Kowari to provide an inclusive > learning platform. > We spent a considerable time looking for a partner who was interested > and committed as well as having a good product. > Originally designed for Early years and Primary, the Kowari team are > now working with Inclusive to make this LP accessible and inclusive. > There are three levels of access for students, so it can be tailored, > and because it can easily have a different "skin" we believe it will > also be suitable for older students who need extra support. > > You can find out more at www.kowari.co.uk or www.simica.com > > > Trish Hornsey | Director > Inclusive Technology Ltd > Riverside Court, Huddersfield Road > Delph, Oldham OL3 5FZ > > Tel: 01457 819790 > Fax: 01457 819799 > > Email: trish at inclusive.co.uk > Web: www.inclusive.co.uk > > Company Reg: 3525459 > Registered in England > > -----Original Message----- > From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk > [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Eileen Perrins > Sent: 26 February 2008 07:50 > To: senit > Subject: [senit] learning platform > > Some time ago on this list there was a summary of what a learning > platfrom needed to look like for a school with PMLD and SLD students, > I have unfortunately lost it and wondered if anyone knows where I can > find it.
