Hi Jon, It is an area that is currently rather under-supported in Linux but there has been quite a bit of recent discussion in the GNOME accessibility community. For example this thread on reading support: http://tinyurl.com/2wpwsg. GNOME is one of the 2 main Linux desktops and are very actively developing accessibility support for Linux (GNOME is used in the the most popular Linux for desktop use, Ubuntu). Anyway GNOME have just announced a competition to attract and pay developers to fix and develop accessibility. There might be some tasks that interest you so it would be worth checking the website after 1 March : http://www.gnome.org/projects/outreach/a11y/ Open Source works best when people join the community so it would be great if you let us know what you would like to see. A good place to start might be to put your thoughts here: http://tinyurl.com/2rbr5v and say hello on the mail list or IRC. CLiCk, Speak is an extension for the Firefox web browser that offers reading support for web pages. It works on Linux, Windows or Mac. http://www.oatsoft.org/Software/click-speak Warm regards -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology www.fullmeasure.co.uk |
