***Commercial Interest*** WriteOnline is a web application. It doesn't get installed. It opens from a Web browser. It's programmed in Java and so is independent of the platform the computer uses. WriteOnline has a talking word processor (using the same voice as Clicker 5). Writing support is offered through customisable Wordbars and word prediction. Teachers can add notes and comments to the student's work. It has many options to allow it to be tweaked to meet the needs of the student. WriteOnline is delivered under an annual subscription. This includes log-ins for all students and staff. The program can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection and files can be saved locally or online. This means the students can have access to the same support at home (or anywhere else) that they receive in school. The program can be used offline for up to three days at a time with files saved locally. Schools with WriteOnline can use LearningGrids World as a Learning Platform. Tasks can be set and submitted online. Teachers can review work, add comments and return to the student for further development. Plans are underway to integrate WriteOnline with other learning platforms. Switch access is not available yet but will follow. Because WriteOnline is web based, there will be no need to issue patches or update CDs. More details can be found at http://www.cricksoft.com/uk/writeonline/. Reviews from a number of publications can be found at http://www.cricksoft.com/uk/about/reviews/index.htm. BTW, WriteOnline won the Duke's Choice award for "Java Technology in Education" at the JavaOne Conference in San Francisco. http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/pr/2008-05/sunflash.20080506.1.xml Kevin Kevin Lynch Training Manager Crick Software Ltd -----Original Message----- From: senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senit-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of david fettes Sent: 13 June 2008 10:45 To: senit at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: Re: [senit] Talking word processors how does WriteOnline from Crick Software work, anyone using it?
